A Tribute to Tasha Diamant

artist, activist, board member, and cherished friend.

When we lose someone who was so loved as Tasha, it is difficult to find the words to describe how important she was to us, and to our communities.

Tasha first joined the Alter Arts community in 2021, when she painted a mural entitled “Midsummer Nightmare” on the side of the Roxy Theatre (2657 Quadra St.) as part of the Quadra Village Mural Festival. Her mural depicts the characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream in an old growth forest that has been destroyed in the name of corporate profits. I hope that next time you pass through Quadra Village you think of Tasha and the message she wanted to share.

Tasha went on to become a regular volunteer at the Community Art Hub (2022 and 2023). She joined the Alter Arts Society board in August 2022, and stayed on with us until the end.

Tasha spent her life shining a light on the ways that capitalism, colonization, and patriarchy harm all of us, and fighting back by creating space for shared vulnerability. For Tasha, that meant recognizing, honouring and turning towards culturally undesirable emotions like anger at injustice. Tasha stood up for what she believed in, and was not afraid to put her body on the line - in that she was an inspiration to many.

Thank you for leading the way, friend. Your fierce passion for what is right will be missed.

Details regarding a celebration of life will be shared at a later date. You can read words from Tasha’s family and find a link to her obituary here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ScJqyJhc7/
