It all begins with an idea
Host a gathering or teach a workshop at the Community Art Hub
Host a Gathering
Would you like to invite community members to come together to or practice a craft or work on a skill? You don't have to be an expert to invite folks to gather and all cross-stitch or paint watercolour flowers or make polymer clay animals together and all learn from each other. We love it when the Art Hub is activated in this way!
We offer an honorarium of $50 per session to community facilitators. Participants can bring their own materials, or wse the materials that are available at the Art Hub.
Teach a Workshop
Do you have expertise in a particular area that you would like to share with the community by teaching a workshop? In these more formal sessions folks all learn a new skill together and take home a finished project.
Workshops can take place over one day or two. For workshops we pay the artist's going rate, or approx mately $250 per day. We also cover the cost of materials, and order what's needed for the workshop if we don't already have it at the Art Hub.
If you're interested please reach out to alterartssociety[at]gmail.com to discuss the details!
Alter Arts Society is a registered non-profit organization and community initiative by and for artists located on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən people of the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) nations.
Those of us who are uninvited visitors to these territories, respectfully seek opportunities to unlearn oppressive, colonial practices that we have benefited from, and to follow the lead of the Indigenous stewards of these lands. We are committed to questioning existing power structures, supporting the decolonization of our society and institutions, and supporting Indigenous self-determination.
