Our aim is to make the world a better place by creating and supporting artistic, educational, environmental, and social activities and events. We are committed to advancing equity and sustainability, supporting artists in developing their abilities, sharing knowledge, and building community.
Alter Arts Society acknowledges that inequalities exist even in spaces that are committed to social justice and equality. We are will work hard to create equal opportunity within a safe space whenever we come together.
Collectively, we commit to:
Cultivating an open and welcoming community. We will consciously create a welcoming environment free from oppression and discrimination, and actively working to empower marginalized people. Everyone is welcome in our space, and at our events. No pre-requisites exist for participation in our community. Every community member is valued, and has something to contribute.
Radical interdependence, sharing, and mutual aid. We actively encourage sharing and mutual aid, given freely without expectations. Gifts of knowledge, companionship, encouragement, performances, interpersonal connections, and physical objects are encouraged. We also value compensating people fairly for their time and their creations, and will work collaboratively to support artists and creators who wish to unlock the monetary value in their work.
Caring for one another and our shared spaces. Our community is built on respect for one another and the spaces that we all share. We are interdependent with the people and places around us, and commit to having a positive impact in all of our physical and social interactions. We request explicit consent, and respect one another’s boundaries.
Building community through radical participation. We believe that the best way to build community is by working together towards a shared goal. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play, and to help grow and sustain our community.
Making the world a better place, one art project at a time.

Alter Arts Society is a registered non-profit organization and community initiative by and for artists located on the stolen lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən people.
As uninvited visitors to these territories, we respectfully seek opportunities to unlearn oppressive, colonial practices that we have benefited from, and to follow the lead of Indigenous elders in stewarding these lands. We are committed to questioning existing power structures, and supporting the decolonization of our society and institutions and Indigenous self-determination however we can.
