Answers to your top questions. Select the question to view the answer.

    What is it?

“A Cozy Queer Affair” is a two-day fall pride celebration. This event offers a counterpoint to the crowds, intense heat, and loud music that often go hand in hand with summer Pride events. Our intent is to add to the community calendar by creating an accessible queer festival that celebrates LGBTQIA2S+ art, community, and performances in the cooler months, when we need community the most.

How do I get a ticket?

Entry to our event is by donation, with all funds going to the Alter Arts Society. Money raised at A Cozy Queer Affair will go into future art making opportunities for local artists and community members.

There is a minimum donation of $5, payable by cash, debit, credit or e-transfer at the event. Please let us know if this is a barrier for you, and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Is this a family friendly event?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome. This is a free and all ages event where everyone is welcome. The face painting, workshops and music are designed to be accessilbe to all. This is a sober event with no alcohol served.

We are proud to creating friendly LGBTQIA2S+ inclusive spaces. Please be respectful of everyone's experience.

Alter Arts Society is committed to creating a safe environment for our community. Any intolerance or bigotry will not be tolerated.

    Who is organizing this event?

The Alter Arts Society is organizing this event. As a non-profit society, this event is made possible thanks to the funding from

    • The City of Victoria
    • The Capital Regional District Arts Commission
    • the BC Arts Council
    • The Government of Canada

This event is possible thanks to the gracious collaboration of the Other Guise Theatre Company.

    Accessibility

The venue is completely wheelchair accessible. There are gender neutral and fully wheelchair accessible bathrooms available.

Our poetry stage will be using Silent Disco Headphones! That means each person will pick up a set of headphones and get the audio streamed directly to each listener. The headphones come with their own volume control. Headphones can also be used while turned off for noise dampening in the rest of the space. Headphones are wiped with alcohol at the end of each night.

There will be a harm reduction table available with foam earplugs, safe sex supplies, menstrual products, fidgets, and more.

We will be providing masks at our front door and at our harm reduction table for patrons now that we are in the height of COVID season. We are encouraging masking at this time but it is not required.

If you have questions or concerns regarding specific needs please feel encouraged to reach out to the event organizers at alterartssociety@gmail.com

Alter Arts Society is a registered non-profit organization and community initiative by and for artists located on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən people of the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) nations.

Those of us who are uninvited visitors to these territories, respectfully seek opportunities to unlearn oppressive, colonial practices that we have benefited from, and to follow the lead of the Indigenous stewards of these lands. We are committed to questioning existing power structures, supporting the decolonization of our society and institutions, and supporting Indigenous self-determination.
